Specialist Support
Pregnancy & Baby Loss Counselling
BACP accredited counselling after miscarriage, stillbirth, termination for medical reasons, or the death of a baby. In person in Seven Kings, Ilford, and online across the UK. There is no threshold a loss has to reach before it is worth talking about.
What You Might Notice
A loss that others may not recognise
One of the hardest aspects of baby loss is how little space is often made for it. People may not know what to say, so they say nothing, and the silence can be isolating.
Grief without acknowledgement
Mourning someone most people never met, and being expected to carry on as though a chapter simply closed.
Dates that keep arriving
Due dates, anniversaries, scan dates. The calendar holds reminders that nobody else is counting.
Fear in a later pregnancy
A subsequent pregnancy can bring anxiety rather than straightforward happiness, and guilt about not feeling the way you think you should.
Strain between partners
Two people grieving differently and at different speeds, each worried about adding to the other.
How Therapy Helps
What these sessions offer
Therapy gives you somewhere the loss is taken entirely seriously and where you do not have to manage anyone else’s discomfort while you talk. You can speak about your baby for as long as you want to.
I will not put a shape on your grief or suggest where you ought to be by now. We work at your pace, with whatever is most present, including anger or relief if those are part of it. Many people also find writing between sessions useful, and sleep is often one of the first things affected.
Where a loss was sudden, frightening, or involved a difficult experience of care, grief and trauma can become entangled. The trauma counselling page explains how I approach that more slowly and carefully.
Alongside therapy there are national charities dedicated specifically to pregnancy and baby loss, which offer helplines and peer support. The Crisis Help page lists services you can contact at any hour if you need someone sooner.
