Anxiety Counselling
BACP accredited counselling for anxiety, from a private therapy room in Seven Kings, Ilford, and online across the UK. If anxiety has begun to shape the choices you make, therapy offers a steady place to understand what is driving it.
What You Might Notice
How anxiety tends to show up
Anxiety rarely arrives as one single feeling. People often describe some mixture of the following, and wonder whether what they are dealing with is stress or anxiety.
Worry that will not switch off
Thoughts that circle the same subject, often work, health, money or the people you love, and carry on long after you have tried to put them down.
Tension held in the body
A tight chest, a churning stomach, shallow breathing, jaw or shoulder tension. Many people notice the body first and only later connect it to how they have been feeling.
Quietly avoiding things
Turning down invitations, putting off phone calls, taking the longer route. Avoidance brings relief in the moment while slowly making the world smaller.
Sleep that will not settle
Lying awake running through the day, or waking early with a sense of dread before anything has happened. Sleep and anxiety tend to feed each other.
How Therapy Helps
Working with anxiety in therapy
I work integratively, which means I draw on more than one approach rather than applying the same method to everyone. With anxiety that often includes ideas from CBT to look at the thoughts and habits keeping a cycle going, alongside slower, more exploratory work on where the anxiety learned to be so loud.
Early sessions are usually about getting a clear picture: when it started, what makes it worse, and what you have already tried. From there we work both on coping in the present and on the patterns underneath, at a pace you set.
One of the most common questions people bring is whether this will pass on its own. There is no single answer for everyone, and it is worth reading more about whether anxiety improves with time before deciding what to do next.
You do not need a diagnosis or a referral to begin. A free 15-minute call is enough to work out whether this is the right fit for you.
