Specialist Support

Work Stress Counselling

BACP accredited counselling for work-related stress, in person in Seven Kings, Ilford, and online across the UK. Evening appointments run Monday to Thursday, because the people who most need this are rarely free at two in the afternoon.

What You Might Notice

When work stops staying at work

Work stress becomes a different problem once it follows you home. It is worth understanding what is actually triggering it rather than treating the whole job as the cause.

Never fully off

Checking messages at the weekend, rehearsing conversations in the shower, unable to be properly present with anyone.

Sunday dread

A reliable drop in mood as the weekend closes. One of the clearest signals that something needs addressing.

Running on empty

Cynicism where there used to be interest, and exhaustion that a holiday no longer fixes.

Conflict you cannot resolve

A manager or colleague the situation keeps turning on, and a growing anger you have nowhere to put.

How Therapy Helps

Working on work stress in therapy

Therapy is not going to reduce your workload. What it can do is separate the parts of the pressure that are structural from the parts you are adding, and the second category is usually larger than people expect.

That means looking honestly at boundaries, at what you agree to and why, and at the beliefs that make stopping feel irresponsible. It also means attending to the basics the stress has eroded, particularly sleep and any routine that keeps you steady.

If this has come on sharply after a specific event, a restructure, a complaint or a period of overload, this piece on therapy for acute stress addresses that directly.

Some people arrive at the point of deciding whether to leave a job. Therapy is a good place to make that decision deliberately rather than at the end of your tether.
