Specialist Support
Stress Counselling
BACP accredited counselling for stress, in person in Seven Kings, Ilford, and online across the UK. When pressure stops easing off between demands, it begins to take a toll. Therapy helps you look at what is triggering it and what can realistically change.
What You Might Notice
How stress builds up
Stress is a response to demand, and it becomes a problem when there is no recovery between demands. It is also commonly confused with anxiety, and the difference between the two is worth understanding.
Pressure that never lets up
Moving from one urgent thing to the next without a gap, and feeling guilty during the gaps you do get.
A shorter fuse
Irritability with the people least responsible for it. Sometimes this is the first thing others notice. Reading on anger can help make sense of it.
The body keeping score
Headaches, stomach trouble, tight shoulders, catching every bug going round. Stress is physical as much as mental.
Thinking that will not sharpen
Forgetting things, rereading the same paragraph, struggling to decide. Under sustained load, concentration is usually first to go.
How Therapy Helps
Working with stress in therapy
We start by separating what is genuinely outside your control from what is being carried unnecessarily. A lot of stress is maintained by patterns that once made sense, and those are workable even when the external pressures are not.
Sessions tend to cover both the practical and the underlying: boundaries, workload and sleep on one hand, and on the other the beliefs about responsibility or worth that make it hard to stop.
If the pressure is recent and intense rather than long-standing, you may find this piece on therapy for acute stress useful. If it has been building for years, that is worth bringing too.
Day and evening appointments exist precisely because stress often comes from a schedule that cannot flex. Evening slots run Monday to Thursday.
