Specialist Support
Depression Counselling
BACP accredited counselling for depression, in person in Seven Kings, Ilford, and online across the UK. When everything feels heavier than it should, therapy gives you somewhere to set it down and look at it properly.
What You Might Notice
How depression tends to show up
Depression is not only sadness, and it does not always look obvious from the outside. There is a fuller picture in this guide to understanding depression.
Flatness rather than sadness
Many people expect tears and instead find numbness, as though the colour has drained out of things that used to matter.
Energy that does not come back
Rest does not restore you. Ordinary tasks, replying to a message or making a meal, start to feel disproportionately heavy.
Losing interest in what you wanted
Hobbies, plans and people slide out of view. Withdrawing feels easier, and then the withdrawal becomes its own problem.
A harsh inner voice
Persistent self-criticism, guilt, or a sense of being a burden. Recognising these symptoms is often the first step.
How Therapy Helps
Working with depression in therapy
Depression tends to shrink the space a person has to think. Therapy widens it again. We go at a pace that does not demand energy you do not currently have, and we start wherever is manageable rather than at the hardest thing.
My approach is integrative, so sessions may move between practical work on the day to day, including sleep and self-care, and deeper exploration of the losses, pressures or long-standing patterns underneath.
People sometimes worry that talking will only make them feel worse, or that nothing can shift. It is worth reading about the role hope plays, and about whether counselling is worth it, if you are weighing this up.
If you are having thoughts of harming yourself, please use the Crisis Help page, which lists services you can contact at any hour, including overnight.
